HI, I'M MARYLIZ BENDER
I’m a creative entrepreneur—a musician, artist, technologist, programmer, storyteller, explorer, and co-founder of Cosmic Perspective—with a mission to inspire hope, elevate empathy, and unite through experiences of awe and wonder.
SHARING THE COSMIC PERSPECTIVE
I’ve spent years interviewing astronauts and I have dedicated my life to translating their profound, transformational experience, and the unifying message of The Overview Effect, through my art, music, and storytelling.
TAKING AN ORCHESTRA TO SPACE
As a musician, I’m obsessed with researching and testing tools of creation that will allow us to create new music and art forms in the unique space environment. For years, I’ve researched and prepared for the ways that we’ll take our humanity with us as we venture out into the stars.
My personal journey
How did I end up chasing rockets, interviewing astronauts, touring music festivals, and sharing the wonders of the Cosmos with the world? I share the journey that drove me to chase my dreams in these two podcast episodes:
I STUDY THE HUMAN EXPERIENCE IN SPACE
I recently returned from Mars (a simulation, that is) where I enjoyed living and training with my crew of 6 in the HI-SEAS habitat. Serving as Crew Documentarian, I led EVA’s to nearby lava tubes, loved assisting my crewmates with their scientific research, and gathered data on the human experience of space exploration.
MY MUSIC & ART
I’ve spent many years of my life as a recording artist, performer, and touring musician. Now, I’m passionate about designing ways that we’ll take the universal language of music with us to the stars.
OUR COSMIC PERSPECTIVE FILMS
I love connecting people to this exciting new space era. My partner and I have spent the last few years documenting over 70 launches, interviewing astronauts, scientists, and engineers, and telling the story of this incredible moment in human history.
A COMMUNITY LEADER & CHANGEMAKER
I’m passionate about bringing people together and fostering communities that work to design the future we want to see. In addition to inspiring the world about the future through space exploration, I’ve used my art to fundraise for homeless coalitions and I’ve worked directly with art organizations to mentor youth who struggle with homelessness or instability, teaching them career skills that empower them to reach for the stars.
I’m on a mission to inspire hope, elevate empathy, and unite through experiences of awe and wonder.
